July 15, 2010 - JoAnn Evelyn Keller '57 MacCallum Libka - Class of 1957JoAnn died peacefully at the home of her daughter Kristy MacCallum Kraus in Yoakum, TX on July 15, 2010. She was born in New Albany, IN on December 29, 1939, the daughter of the late Charles W. and Philomenia M. (Spurrier) Keller.
JoAnn was a graduate of Our Lady of Providence High School (1957) in Clarksville, IN, and Norton Memorial Infirmary School of Nursing (1971) in Louisville, KY, and retired from Jewish Hospital in Louisville where she worked for 22 years. She was also preceded in death by her brother Bernerd C Keller. Survivors include two daughters, Kelley M. MacCallum (PHS'82) of Louisville, KY, and Kristy M. (MacCallum) Klaus (PHS'86) of Yoakum TX; grandsons, Kendrik MacCallum of Louisville, KY, and Deklin MacCallum of Yoakum, TX; a sister: Helen E. (Keller) Martin of Sellersburg, IN; 6 nieces and nephews, 9 great nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.

JASPER, Ind. — Stella C. Whitson, 72, died Dec. 16, 2009, at St. Charles Health Campus. She was a teacher assistant for the Greater Jasper School System and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Surviving are her husband, Charles; daughters, Julie Nonte and Connie Matheis; son Jeff; sisters, Thelma Terry and LaVerne Abbott; brothers, Charles and Jim Smith; and seven grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ireland, burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. today at Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorials may be made to her church.

Classmate Jerry Jacobi writes: "Doug’s best experience at Providence was in Ray Day’s art class and playing the role of the Mule Driver in Man of LaMancha. He was surprisingly authentic on stage - created a ruckus and fighting with Don Quixote. It was a special theatrical moment on the Providence stage when Doug Biesel and Bob Piece were tossed BACKWARDS and HEADFIRST into the well built into the apron of the stage. They fell about six feet on to some wrestling mats. They practiced this athletic stunt and performed it flawlessly each night. It was live and real at a fast pace without hesitation. The audience gasped. These rough looking fellows actually DISAPPEARED from the stage within clear view of the audience. They were proud of their contributions to the tradition of theatrical excellence at Providence."
