Our Lady of Providence High School is celebrating an extraordinary period in Pioneer athletics following the girls soccer team's recent IHSAA State Championship victory, adding another milestone to what has become one of the most successful six-year stretches in school history.
That recent win now brings Providence to a total of 8 IHSAA State Championships during the past six years, plus two additional state runner-up titles in that same timeframe.
Championships Across 6 Sports:
Boys soccer: 2020 • Baseball: 2021, 2024 • Boys basketball: 2022
Girls volleyball: 2022, 2023 • Football: 2024 • Girls soccer: 2026
Other Successes:
27 sectional titles • 15 regional titles • 9 semi-state titles
In addition to its IHSAA accomplishments, Providence's cheerleading program captured a state championship during this same six-year period, winning the HCCA competition for the first time since 2011. Although cheerleading competitions are not governed by the IHSAA, this achievement further demonstrates the dedication and competitive spirit found throughout Pioneer athletics.
“What makes Providence athletics special is that our success isn't limited to one team, one sport, or one graduating class,” Athletic Director Ted Leasor said. “We've established a tradition of excellence across all of our athletic programs through the dedication of our outstanding coaches and student-athletes, who consistently set high expectations for themselves and each other. Our coaches have created an environment where hard work, discipline, accountability, and commitment are expected, and our student-athletes have responded. Together, they've set a standard that each new group takes pride in upholding.”
"While we are incredibly proud of what our girls soccer team accomplished, this championship also gives us an opportunity to recognize something much bigger happening at Providence," said President Victor Beeler. "Over the past six years, our student-athletes have competed in 10 IHSAA state championship contests across multiple boys’ and girls’ sports, bringing home eight titles and finishing as state runners-up twice. That level of sustained success speaks to something special about our school. We are blessed with talented student-athletes and outstanding coaches, but behind each of these accomplishments is a community of parents, alumni, faculty, and supporters who believe deeply in Our Lady’s school.”
At Providence, athletics are an extension of the school's educational mission. The lessons learned through competition reach far beyond the scoreboard, teaching students discipline, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and character. These experiences help shape young people who are prepared to contribute to their communities and lead with integrity.
“What I'm most proud of is the culture we've built and continue to strengthen,” Leasor said. “It's a culture grounded in our shared Catholic faith, where excellence is expected, our student-athletes take pride in representing Providence, and success is measured by more than wins and losses.”
“Rooted in our Catholic faith, our mission calls us to develop young men and women of character, humility, perseverance, and service to others,” Beeler said. “Athletics provides another opportunity to live that mission, teaching lessons that extend well beyond the playing field.”
The girls soccer state championship represents the latest achievement in a remarkable chapter of Providence history. More importantly, it reflects the collective commitment of the student-athletes, coaches, families, alumni, and supporters who make Providence athletics what it is today.
“The trophies are wonderful, but the young people we are forming, the faith and values that guide them, and the community standing behind them are what make me most proud,” Beeler said.
