Applying for College

With more than 90 percent of Our Lady of Providence graduates attending a post-secondary institution, the Fr. Mike Hilderbrand Counseling Center strives to help students and parents understand the complexities of the college admissions process. Our counselors take academic, social, and financial aspects of each student into consideration when helping students and families navigate the admissions process. Our goal is to successfully transition students to life beyond Providence.

The comprehensive counseling program curriculum begins in ninth grade by advising students' academic progression and extracurricular participation while exploring possible career interests. All junior and senior students participate in group college-planning sessions during theology classes as well as have individual conferences with their counselor to help guide them through the entire admissions process. Students receive specialized guidance in standardized testing, applications, essay development, and financial aid. Our goal is to find the best fit for each student based on their individual needs and God-given talents.

What is FAFSA?

The Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the most important document for determining if you’re eligible for financial aid — money to help you pay for education and training beyond high school. The easiest way to file the FAFSA is online at FAFSA.gov.

After you file your FAFSA, your college will be able to tell you which scholarships and grants you could receive as well as how much money you can borrow in federal loans.
